Victorian pool barrier requirements

  • All pools and spas capable of holding more than 30 cm of water must have a compliant safety barrier and be registered with the local council. This includes permanent, above-ground, indoor, inflatable and relocatable pools.
  • The barrier must be inspected every 4 years by an authorised inspector.
  • The inspection can be performed by a registered pool inspector.
  • If the barrier complies, the inspector issues a Certificate of Pool and Spa Barrier Compliance (Form 23).
  • You must lodge the certificate with your council and pay the applicable council fee.
  • The applicable barrier standard depends on when the pool or spa was constructed. Your council’s registration notice should tell you which standard applies.
